You Must Play: Stonetop

D&D players tend to be homeless people who murder everything. If you haven't experienced this, consider yourself in the minority.
Stonetop attempts to solve this issue. Its author, Jeremy Strandberg is still beta-testing the content, so message him if you're interested!

The game revolves around Stonetop, a humble town built on a cliff overlooking a valley. The player classes are very unique, with choices such as the Marshall, the Would-Be-Hero and the Seeker, among many others. In addition to their characters, the players collaborate to create the town itself, which has its own upgrades and details.

By the time character creation is finished, your group will have fleshed out enough details to actually care about the town and the NPCs who live there.
This gives the game a refreshingly unique feel; Quests center around the wellbeing of the town, so adventures are often done out of necessity ("go into the forest to retrieve our kidnapped children!") and feel suitably frightening. If and when your characters die, the entire town suffers.

I had a chance to play this with a small group, including one person who usually didn't enjoy RPGs. We only played one session, and he still talks to me about how special it was to him. I would play it again in a heartbeat.

There's so much I haven't mentioned, such as the broad and evocative locations and monsters, or the bizarre and unique way magic is handled. I urge you to discover this game for yourself. Seriously, Message Jeremy Strandberg on Google Plus, and make an effort to put a group together and actually playtest this game. It's a one-of-a-kind experience that might change the way you think about tabletop RPGs.
